Updated: Mar 17, 2023

Here are few interview questions on SAP BW:

ADSO:

Usually questions related to scenarios will be focused in all the interviews. Questions like how many types of ADSO, types of Analytic Views and all others are available in internet so these questions are less significant in this blog. Otherwise even those questions are also asked.

However below are few questions where there is no 1 answer for all these questions, however interviewer would like to know your perspective and how you are going to model such scenarios.

Try to have an open mindset and share your modelling strategy to the interviewer and you may ask additional questions on top of each scenario to the interviewer which may help you to create a data model and at the same time interviewer gets to know that requirement gathering is also taken care during this process.

  • Scenario: Your client is a manufacturing company that wants to implement a new inventory management system. They have asked you to design an ADSO in SAP BW to store the inventory data. What type of ADSO would you recommend, and how would you configure it?

Interview Question: Based on this scenario, can you describe the type of ADSO you would recommend for storing inventory data in SAP BW, and how you would configure it to meet the client's requirements?

  • Scenario: Your client is a large retailer that wants to track customer behavior across multiple channels, including online and in-store purchases. They have asked you to design an ADSO in SAP BW to store the customer data. What type of ADSO would you recommend, and how would you integrate the data from different channels?

Interview Question: Based on this scenario, can you describe the type of ADSO you would recommend for storing customer data in SAP BW, and how you would integrate the data from different channels? What specific configuration settings would you use to optimize the data integration process?

  • Scenario: Your client is a financial services company that needs to store transaction data in SAP BW for regulatory compliance purposes. The company processes thousands of transactions per day, and the data needs to be stored in near-real time. What type of ADSO would you recommend, and how would you configure it for optimal performance?

Interview Question: Based on this scenario, can you describe the type of ADSO you would recommend for storing transaction data in SAP BW in near-real time, and how you would configure it for optimal performance? What specific tools or techniques would you use to improve the performance of the ADSO?

  • Scenario: Your client is a healthcare organization that wants to track patient outcomes over time. They have asked you to design an ADSO in SAP BW to store the patient data. What type of ADSO would you recommend, and how would you configure it to ensure data accuracy and consistency?

Interview Question: Based on this scenario, can you describe the type of ADSO you would recommend for storing patient data in SAP BW, and how you would configure it to ensure data accuracy and consistency? What specific tools or techniques would you use to validate and monitor the data in the ADSO?

  • Scenario: Your client is a global organization that needs to store and analyze data from multiple subsidiaries in different countries. They have asked you to design an ADSO in SAP BW to store the data. What type of ADSO would you recommend, and how would you configure it to support the organization's global operations?

Interview Question: Based on this scenario, can you describe the type of ADSO you would recommend for storing data from multiple subsidiaries in SAP BW, and how you would configure it to support the organization's global operations? What specific tools or techniques would you use to ensure data consistency and compliance with local regulations?

Query Designer:

  • How would you limit the amount of data that is returned by a query in SAP BI?

Scenario: You are experiencing long query runtimes due to a large amount of data being returned by the query.

  • What is the use of calculated key figures in SAP BI?

Scenario: You need to create a key figure that calculates the gross margin percentage for a set of products.

  • How would you handle query performance issues in SAP BI?

Scenario: Users are reporting that queries are taking too long to execute and they are unable to complete their work in a timely manner.

  • How would you create a hierarchy in SAP BI Query Designer?

Scenario: You need to create a hierarchy for product categories to be used in a query.

  • What are the different types of joins available in SAP BI Query Designer?

Scenario: You need to combine data from two InfoProviders in a query.

  • How would you create a query that displays the top 10 products by revenue?

Scenario: Management has asked for a report that shows the top 10 products by revenue for the past year.

  • What are the different types of variables available in SAP BI Query Designer?

  • How would you test a query in SAP BI before releasing it to end-users?

Scenario: You have created a query and want to ensure that it is working correctly before releasing it to end-users for consumption.

Infocube:

  1. Can you explain the difference between a standard and a real-time Infocube in SAP BI?

  2. Suppose you have an Infocube with multiple dimensions, but only one dimension is frequently used. How can you improve query performance in this case?

  3. Can you explain how you can delete data from an Infocube in SAP BI? What are the different options available to you?

  4. Suppose you need to add a new field to an existing Infocube in SAP BI. What steps would you take to do this?

  5. Can you explain how you can optimize Infocube performance in SAP BI? What are some best practices you would follow?

  6. Suppose you have an Infocube with a large amount of data, and you want to retrieve a small subset of this data. How can you do this in SAP BI?

  7. Can you explain the difference between a fact table and a dimension table in an Infocube?

  8. Suppose you have multiple Infocubes with similar characteristics, and you need to combine them into a single Infocube. How can you do this in SAP BI?

  9. Can you explain the process of aggregating data in an Infocube? What are some factors that can affect the accuracy of this process?

  10. Suppose you need to migrate an Infocube from one system to another. What steps would you take to ensure that the process goes smoothly and that data is not lost or corrupted during the migration?

ODP :

  1. What is ODP in SAP BI and how is it used? Scenario: A company wants to replicate operational data from its SAP ERP system to its SAP BW/4HANA system in real-time. Explain how ODP can help in achieving this.

  2. What are the different types of ODPs available in SAP BI and when would you use each one? Scenario: A company wants to replicate data from its SAP ERP system to its SAP BW/4HANA system. Explain which type of ODP you would use to achieve this and why.

  3. What is the difference between an ODP extractor and a standard extractor in SAP BI? Scenario: A company wants to extract data from its SAP S/4HANA system to its SAP BW/4HANA system. Explain the differences between using an ODP extractor and a standard extractor in SAP BI.
