BW, BI or B4HANA Implementation involves in analyzing company's statistical data to assist all Business Leaders in making strategic business decisions. BI implementation projects we may take 6 months approx. which requires 1 project manager, 1 BI Solution Designer, 1 BI developer and 1 Agile Scrum Master.

BI Project Plan Steps:

A very 1st step where all the stake holders need to come to an agreement is about a few assumptions and scope of the project.

Scope of the Project:

  • Business Functional Area: CRM Analytics, FI Analytics

  • Data Sources: 2 Standard SAP extractors which has direct mapping rules.

  • EDW Layer: Data warehouse layer

  • Propagation Layer: Multi-dimensional dataset with Business logics

  • Reporting Layer: Analysis For Office, Business Objects, Power BI

Feasibility Study

Analyze the legacy system, existing business processes, requirements for new BI implementation solution.

4 - 7 Weeks approx.

Documents: Business process document, Ways of Working and SOP.

Requirement Gathering and Gap Analysis

Requirement Gathering is crucial step where BI solution designers will ask series of questions to find the requirements and business owners document the same and set the expectations on the deliverables and test data. BI Solution Designers also perform a thorough check with Business Requirement and the existing Standard SAP Extractors and provide a Gap Analysis document.

Once both Functional and Technical teams come to an agreement the Requirements needs to be frozen and signed off. ( Is Requirement Freeze important ? )

3 - 6 Weeks approx.

Documents: Functional Descriptions, Gap Analysis

Blueprint or Conceptualization

Define BI solution, propose reporting solution, data flow, mappings.

ETL procedure, scheduling data extraction procedures

Data quality processes, BI Cutover plan and Implementation strategy.

3 - 6 Weeks approx.

Documents: Technical Specifications, Solution Design Diagram

Project Plan

Define timelines.

Define smaller deliverables with a time stamp.

Technical Cut Over plan.

Resourcing Plan, Leave Plan.

Contingency Plan, Back up and disaster recovery strategy.

2 - 3 Weeks approx.

Documents: Project Plan, Agile Methodologies, BCP, TCO.

Build Phase

Develop the designed solution.

Perform unit testing with test data provided in FD.

Perform integration test in different environments.

Quality check of input/output data.

8 - 12 Weeks approx.

User training and User Testing

Provide user training, manual to felicitate the testing

Fix UAT defects

2 - 3 Weeks approx.

Documents: User Acceptance Testing Sign off, User Manual.


Perform Cutover Activities.

Deploy BI Implementation Solution into Production.

Hyper-care Support

BI Design and Build Team supports the BI Solution in Production.

2 - 4 Weeks approx.

Documents: Hyper-care fix and reengineering documents.

Solution Support And Upgrade

Team can support the BI solution in Production with minimal resources on data load activities, incident resolution and upgrade the solution to newer versions.
